Timber Beauty Inside & Outside in Rural Montana

Building a spec home involves a risk-taking mentality. In 2021, we were approached by a General Contractor outside of Laramie, Wyoming. He had secured a beautiful lot of 20+ acres and wanted to build a quintessential Wyoming ranch home. The design inspiration featured rustic elements including heavy hewn textures on the siding and corrugated steel panels on the ceilings.

The plans were initially rough sketches and fairly abstract, with details as simple as pitch and span. The interior would include timber trusses and beams. The exterior would include timber posts and beams, trusses, hewn siding, and more. We designed timber features for all four sides of the exterior, allowing the future homeowner to enjoy all 360 degrees of their rural property.

Taking a flexible building approach, the timber features were installed first and then the home was finished out around those features. This home is a typical “hybrid” home where natural timber elements are combined with stick framing, sheetrock, etc. The resulting look is the best of both worlds – modern appeal with natural elements.

From initial design to delivery took about a year, and this is a typical timeframe for our customers. When you partner with us, we enter into a relationship that takes us from design, to build, to delivery, and beyond. This Contractor is already working with us again on a custom barn so we look forward to another beautiful finished project to feature!
