Focus On The Family Retreat Center

First impressions can make a big difference! This is definitely the case for this custom Retreat Facility built for Focus on The Family. This beautiful structure features timber trusses and natural elements that welcome guests into an inviting and rewarding experience.

The original drawings of this project came to us from a lumber yard in Michigan. The lumber yard could supply part of the timbers needed for this project, but wanted to partner with us to build the timber trusses and supply the tongue & groove decking.

They had an architect already working on the design, so we provided detailed drawings of the trusses to make sure everything would work together. We then coordinated the engineering review and stamps. Fun fact: This structure required a 40# snow load due to the snow fall in Michigan, but we have designed trusses for up to 100# snow load in places like Big Bear, California and Schweitzer Mountain here in our backyard.

The king and queen trusses were built with a combination of traditional mortis and tenon with oak pegs, and some concealed metal components. The metal components were required due to the significant span of these trusses, which were almost 40 feet.

The contractors on-site received our product partially assembled and easily integrated it with the other framing in progress. It’s always exciting for our clients to receive the trusses and affirm that they will be one of the defining features of their project.
